Steelmaking method: The steel whisker is killed steel and must meet the requirements of fine austenite grain size of A20/A20M standard.
Allowable deviation: steel plate is delivered with positive tolerance, negative deviation is 0, tolerance band is moved up.
All SA542 steel plates need normalizing heat treatment. At this time, the steel plate can be heated to an appropriate austenitizing temperature, keep enough time to make the temperature uniform on the whole thickness, and quenched by spraying or immersion with suitable liquid medium. The lowest austenitizing temperature of D-type material should be 1650(900). The lowest austenitizing temperature of E-type material should be 1850(1010).
Before the steel plate whose thickness is more than 4 in. (100mm) is heat treated according to 4.2, the A, B, C and D steel plates are pre-normalized or water-quenched at a temperature ranging from 1 650 to 1 850 (900 to 1 1010) and the E steel plates are pre-normalized or water-quenched at a temperature ranging from 1 850 to 2 050 (1010 to 1 120).
